Big Impact On Energy Savings At American Axle PlantIAC Indianapolis Team help make a big impact on energy savings at American Axle MPG Forge Plant in Columbus, Indiana. Through a compressed air audit, implementation of Sullair two stage compressors with Spiral Valve technology and an Airleader Master Controller, IAC along with the MPG team were able to reduce energy costs by 38% or about $290,000 per year while the plant throughput increased by 45% over the course of four years. Compressors were placed outdoors for a better operating environment with cold weather packages and VFD Fans. Implementation of an Airleader control system ensures continuous monitoring and data logging of their compressed air system for ongoing improvements, year after year. |
North American Stainless Case HistoryBarry Renfro of North American Stainless in Ghent, KY had an issue with his compressed air system. The compressors and dryers are spread out across this very large site. Some of the compressor rooms are close to a mile away from each other. Many of the compressor rooms use all the compressors and dryers available to maintain plant air pressure. When a compressor or dryer requires maintenance or emergency repairs, rental compressors must be utilized to keep the plant running. The demand on the plant compressed air system is so critical that Barry ended up keeping portable compressors rented full time to avoid any costly downtime. Those rental charges became a normal cost of doing business after several years. Casey Holleman from IAC Air Compression began to work with Barry on ways to save money throughout the plant. Together, Barry and Casey thought if IAC could provide an engineered solution to the rental compressors and dryers there would be a significant return on investment. |

Tech Tip: Know your Compressor Fluid and its ConditionLike the blood in your body, the fluid in your compressor is vital and performs multiple critical functions. And, like your blood, you should have it tested periodically to check for a few things. What does the fluid do?
What will sampling and analyzing the fluid tell me? -You will know the condition and remaining life of the fluid. Continued operation at higher than normal temperature can dramatically reduce fluid life... |
