BANDAIDS: Good for fingers, not for Compressed Air Systems

Hindsight is said to be 20/20 vision. While I reflect back to my previous career as a proprietor of a metal fabrication company, I remember in great detail the errors of my way. Normally, I was the individual that remained at work after hours and through the weekend to finish up the incomplete tasks of the week. One of my dreaded “chores” of the evening was to shut down the compressor system that my shop personnel forgot to address. And then it happens.

I open the door to the shop, not wanting to turn on the dreaded metal halide lights which take a lifetime to warm up. I struggle to find a path to the air compressor, utilizing only the light emitted from the overhead security lamp. I find the switch to the air compressor, turn off the unit, and then the realization of other issues. Hoses and equipment hissing throughout the shop like a brood of vipers awaiting the victim to which I am about to become. I weave my way throughout the shop with the intentions of stopping all these unwanted leaks, only to be greeted by the worst cases of repair known to mankind. Read More...

Routine Maintenance: The Unsung Hero

It’s Wednesday afternoon on a warm Summer day. The AC in the maintenance office kicks on providing you a brief blast of cool air as an interruption from the sound of an alarm rings through the facility. The crackle of the radio goes off and you hear the worst three words a production manager wants to hear, “compressors are down.”

You arrive in the compressor room to find the unsavory sight of a bright red service light and fault message stating, “Shut-Down High Temp”. A quick glance at the unit has a phone number for your service provider and you make the call to get a technician on site. The tech arrives shortly and with 20 minutes has you running again. No parts, oil or materials needed just an invoice for labor and the cost of lost production.

Your filter changes are up to date. No changes to production schedule or shifts, so why the shut down? One reason might be… Routine Maintenance. Read More...

Inside Sales - Jeffersonville, IN

Shelley Ernst has been with IAC for seventeen years. She has always been a part of inside sales and considers herself the mother hen of the sales team. She processes equipment orders, quotations and many other tasks. Shelley loves working with IAC’s vendors and customers and always strives to provide outstanding customer service.

Shelley is a HUGE College Basketball fan and of course supports the UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY WILDCATS!!! I think the hardest thing about the COVID19 thing was the loss of college basketball and especially tournament time.

Shelley has a WONDERFUL eighteen-year-old daughter, Lily, who survived a drive thru graduation, and finished High School with the status of Valedictorian. She danced for the dance team all four years and was able to enjoy National Tournaments in Florida every year!! Lily is a real trooper, her senior year she did NOT get a Spring Break, Prom or Graduation. She will be moving on to college and attending Transylvania University in Lexington, KY. Shelley is not sure what Lily will be studying just yet, but knows she is going to do great things.

High Temp Dryer Application in Concrete Block and Brick Industry

Recently, I received a call from a client in the brick and concrete block industry to come out and look at some air quality issues they were having daily. The issue was shutting down production during a very high demand season. They believed their dryer was working but it was not getting the air dry enough. Dry air is critical for their application since they use the air to move powdered materials into forms to create landscape block and bricks, pavers, etc. The moisture in their air was causing the materials to clump together and prevent material from being transferred properly slowing and sometimes shutting down their production completely. While many industries have slowed production during the Covid-19 pandemic, the brick and block industry is busier than they have ever been. The end user told me that they had sold through one year’s worth of product in three months to the major home improvements stores. Needless to say, they could not afford any hiccups in production. Once I arrived at the customer’s facility and he took me into the compressor room the root cause was quickly determined. Read More...
