A Word Of Thanks To All Our Wonderful CustomersThe Holidays are a great time of year to reflect on the bounty all around us. The events which took place this year make all of us at Industrial Air Centers even more grateful for what we have. Our business was abruptly disrupted this year when our major supplier ended our relationship in February. Our staff immediately went to work to find the best solutions we could to meet the demands of our customer base. It is a wonderful thing to witness a group of people who have become your “work family” walk toward the fire, not run from it. That spirit allowed us to go out and partner with manufacturers who are providing superior solutions for our customers. |
Interview with Bill Mattingly of Strong SpiritsIAC: Tell us about the air system at Strong Spirits before the oil free system supplied by IAC. BM: Contracting with IAC to implement an oil free system at Strong Spirits was critical for us. We were originally running piston type compressors that were too small and not reliable for our bottling process. The compressed air is in direct contact with our customer’s spirits. Clean, dry, oil free air is a must. IAC: So, explain how things have changed since IAC installed the new system. |
Benefits from Managing and Monitoring your Compressed Air SystemThe early 2000s was a time of energy awareness of compressed air systems. It was a time of pioneering compressed air system auditing and implementing large storage tanks and flow controllers to go along with the drastically inefficient part loading controls of lubricated screw compressors. The late 2000s and early 2010s marked the wave of Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) controlled compressors. This offered the best part load efficiency for lubricated screw compressors across the board. People might say “My system was inefficient, that is why I purchased a VFD compressor”, but in reality, many were misapplied, especially in multiple compressor systems which had multiple shifts with variations in load. |
Employee Spotlight - Sheila PattonContract Manager On October 5, 1996 I met George Burch and Dave Suder in an empty office space, with nothing but 2 folding chairs and a 5 gal bucket of compressor fluid for a table. That was a momentous day in my life – the start of 22+years with Industrial Air Centers. Dave and I opened the Cincinnati Branch of IAC – from the beginning with used office furniture to adding a salesman and a service technician. We both wore many hats during those first years. It was a great opportunity for me to learn all aspects of the business – service, parts, equipment sales, rentals, accounting. As we grew and added more people, I devoted my time to the service side of the business - scheduling service, ordering parts for jobs, working with the service techs, working with the customers, billing the service jobs. Three times over the years, we have installed new computer systems. We could actually stop scheduling manually and hand writing job tickets! In 2005 I moved on to specialize in project management. I was able to travel to our 5 branches and train people in using our Computer programs. When a problem arose at a branch, I was able to travel to that branch to help work it out. |
Using Heat Recovery To Save On Energy When The Temperature DropsWhile the temperatures outside are dropping, and energy costs continue their ageless march upwards, you should consider how to take advantage of a current, dependable heat source that you may or may not think about – your air compressor. MOST of the electrical energy that goes into your compressor is transformed into heat. Even the newest, most efficient compressor only gets a fraction of the energy transformed into compressed air that provides work. But rather than decry the laws of physics and fret over the cost of wasted energy, you can recapture upwards of 96 percent of this heat to use in productive and sustainable ways. |
